SARAH DOHRMANN MFA, LMSW

Psychotherapist

Sarah Dohrmann, MFA, LMSW, is a psychotherapist, educator, and writer. She graduated with honors from the Silberman School of Social Work at CUNY-Hunter College, and is currently a Level II Clinical Fellowship trainee of gestalt therapy at the Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy. Sarah is also an EMDRIA-trained EMDR practitioner treating individuals who have experienced complex and/or acute traumas. In addition to working with individuals at Brooklyn Somatic Therapy, Sarah has also worked with survivors of interpersonal and gender-based violence, LGBTQIA+ young adults living in shelter, mothers who have transitioned out of foster care and are at risk of losing their own children to care, as well as terminally ill children and their caregivers.

Following years of dedication to writing and to the teaching of writing, Sarah has come to understand that our stories and implicit memories live not in our heads but in our bodies. Whether suffering symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, or issues at work or in relationships, Sarah’s warm, relational style invites clients to stay present with their feelings and body sensations so that they may explore and discover what stories they are unconsciously holding. Are the stories old and no longer applicable, yet getting in the way of growth? With compassion and safety, Sarah collaboratively guides her clients to explore and heal from their core wounding to answer these and other big questions so that new stories can emerge.

EMILY ROSE CANNON LMSW

Psychotherapist

Emily Rose Cannon, LMSW, began practicing as a psychotherapist after decades of experience in dance, yoga, and various movement-based modalities. Her practice is rooted in the somatic ideology that our bodies are an avenue to our unconscious; by slowing down and tuning into our felt senses, we can access a well of information that we don’t ordinarily have access to in our day-to-day lives.

Her therapeutic lens is informed by her studies in social work, psychoanalysis, Applied Polyvagal Theory, and Somatic Experiencing, and she is currently earning her certification in The Hakomi Method, a mindfulness-based somatic modality and Pain Reprocessing Therapy, an evidence based treatment for chronic pain. She has worked as a social worker in hospital settings and as a talk-psychotherapist in community mental health clinics and a psychoanalytic institute. Regardless of setting, she approaches therapeutic spaces with reverence, and she is humbled, honored, and grateful to do this work with folks from many walks of life.

Her philosophy centers on creating a safe space, allowing clients the freedom to fully express themselves.

STANZI WICHT

Psychotherapy Intern

Stanzi is a Mental Health Counseling graduate student at Baruch College. She believes that each person has an innate wisdom guiding them towards growth. Like a wound knows how to heal itself when cared for properly, so does the human psyche. Drawing upon principles from Internal Family Systems therapy, Hakomi Mindfulness Somatic therapy, existential therapy, spiritual counseling and neuroscience, she integrates modalities that allow us to notice, welcome and accept all parts of ourselves. This serves to accelerate the shift to embodying the most authentic version of yourself.

Stanzi also provides ketamine-assisted psychotherapy with substantial preparation and integration support. She works on helping clients understand the risks and benefits of psychedelic substances, and develop strategies for maximizing the therapeutic potential of their journeys.

KIRA CLARK

Psychotherapy Intern

Kira is completing a masters degree in Mental Health Counseling at Baruch College. She has received training in Somatic Regulation Strategies and Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment, an approach that integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic awareness and neuroscience. Her work is also informed by her studies in Applied Polyvagal Theory, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Contemplative Psychotherapy.

Kira believes that therapy is the practice of erecting a container large enough to hold all things human - desires, urges, pains, joys - the many contradictory and often unconscious facets of the psyche. Her approach to working with trauma centers on broadening somatic awareness, cultivating self-compassion, and befriending stuck or “unacceptable” parts. Her lens is anti-capitalist, anti-oppressive, and non-pathologizing, with an eye to the ways that culture, nature, and time all go into shaping who we are. Kira is also a musician, writer, and a lifelong student of philosophy.
